Nominations Open for 2024 Spirt of the ADA Awards

The Governor's Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities (GCEPD) in Vermont is thrilled to announce the opening of nominations for the 2024 Spirit of the ADA Awards. This prestigious accolade celebrates employers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to creating inclusive workplaces for individuals with disabilities.

The Spirit of the ADA Awards recognizes organizations that excel in four key areas:

  1. Recruitment: Employers who actively seek to hire individuals with disabilities, ensuring diverse and inclusive hiring practices.

  2. Use of Accommodations: Businesses that effectively implement reasonable accommodations to support employees with disabilities, enabling them to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities.

  3. Creating an Accessible Workplace: Companies that prioritize accessibility in their physical and digital workspaces, ensuring that all employees can navigate and use the facilities and tools necessary for their roles.

  4. Strategic Employment Initiatives: Employers who develop and execute comprehensive strategies to employ people with disabilities, fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.

The GCEPD encourages the community to nominate deserving employers who have shown outstanding dedication to the principles of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This act, signed into law in 1990, aims to prevent discrimination and ensure equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment.

Previous award recipients have set high standards, showcasing innovative practices and demonstrating that inclusion is not just a moral imperative but also a strategic advantage. As the 2024 nominations open, the GCEPD looks forward to highlighting more success stories and encouraging widespread adoption of inclusive employment practices.

Nominations for the 2024 Spirit of the ADA Awards can be submitted through the GCEPD's website. The nomination process is straightforward, ensuring that anyone can recognize an employer's dedication to inclusivity. The deadline for submissions is July 15th, 2024, and the award winner will be chosen in August and recognized in October at award ceremonies held across the state.
